Kevin's Take: AI Is Moving Fast—But Thoughtful Adoption Matters
This week, I've been thinking a lot about how quickly AI continues to evolve and how important it is to separate the hype from what's actually useful.
One of the biggest developments is Microsoft's release of Copilot Co-work, which is now generally available. To me, this represents the next step beyond simply chatting with AI. Instead of answering a single question, AI can now work toward a goal: researching information, creating documents, scheduling meetings, and completing tasks in the background while you focus on other work. It's an exciting glimpse of where productivity software is headed.
At the same time, these new capabilities raise important questions. As AI becomes more powerful, companies and governments are grappling with how to balance innovation, security, and responsible use. The recent suspension of Anthropic's Fable 5 model is a reminder that technical breakthroughs are only one part of the story. Policy and governance are becoming just as influential in determining how and when these technologies reach users.
I've also been following the growing backlash against AI, particularly among students and recent graduates. I understand where much of that concern comes from. They're often told not to use AI in school, only to enter a workforce where employers expect them to use it every day. That's a confusing message.
My view is that AI should enhance learning, not replace it. Rather than having AI write your work for you, use it as a coach. Write the first draft yourself, then ask AI to review it, point out weak spots, or suggest improvements. That's where I believe AI delivers its greatest value: helping us become better at what we already do.
The future of AI won't be defined solely by bigger models or faster technology. It will be shaped by how responsibly we choose to use these tools. The people who learn to work alongside AI while continuing to think critically and develop their own skills will be best positioned for what's ahead.
